Steel tube arch truss, which has merits of definite load condition, concise calculation model, convinient construction, economical use of steel, etc, is a popular structural form in large-span structure system at present. In recent years, this modern structure presents in hallways, airports, gymnasiums, meeting exhibition centers and other designs with its concision, fluency, and handsome visual effect. However, the working mechanism of joints which are welded directly by the steel tube is still at exploratory stage, especially the research on the changes of performance is quite scarce after the bending of steel tube. In the process of construction, the building deformation, subside, and crack due to constant change of loads and influence of the external force. Therefore, strength and deformation analysis seem very important during construction and after completion stage. Combining with the university gymnasium, the deformation of large-span steel tube arch truss during construction is monitored and systematically analysed in this paper. Firstly, the application, development, definition and classification of the large-span structure are briefly introduced in this paper, and the structural feature and sort of the steel tube truss are presented; hence, design criterion, including connecting, sort, failure mode, configuration and calculating formula of intensity of tubular joints are settled. Secondly, the structural form, strength characteristic and analytical model of steel tube truss are explained. Combining with the actual project, different calculation models are adopted to calculate and analyze, the result is very significant for engineering design. Finally, the reason and type of deformation in building are explained; and the monitoring method, deformation results of large-span steel tube arch truss during construction are analyzed. Then the strength and deformation of the structure during construction are analyzed by the finite element method, in order to confirm the main influence factor of deformation in gymnasium, as well as guarantee the construction go on wheels.
