Rapid prototyping (RP) technology is a kind of advanced manufacturing technology developed in the last 20th, which has very good application prospect. But majorities of enterprises applying RP tech have to import the advanced Rapid Prototyping equipments that are very expensive,which limit the wide usages of the Rapid Prototyping technology in China. The Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) device has no laser, so the equipment is cheaper, plus its high efficiency and high accuracy, it is significant to research and develop the FDM device. FDM tech is related to technologies of mechanics, CNC, macromolecule material and computer science. In this article, the control system of FDM HRPR-I device and factors influencing the precision of the manufacturing parts in the process of machining of FDM were presented in detail. The Research of FDM device is developed referencing the research experiences of developing series of HRP device. The FDM device is base on a single PC and universal control card. Applying the modulated software system and open bus structure, the FDM system is designed. Satisfied to the demand of the stability, security and real-time, Windows NT is applied as the software platform of HRPR-I, and the hardware structure of the control system and the device driver program was developed. The hardware structure includes the driver control system, speed adjustable of DC Motor control system and temperature control system. Lastly, according to the test result, the factors influencing the precisions of the manufacturing parts in the process of machining were presented in detail. A series of measurement for improving the precision are also put forward, which have been used successfully in the fused deposition modelling processing.
