It is important to investigate the sootblowing performance and optimize the sootblowing strategy, which will lead to increase boiler efficiency, to prolong boiler life and to decrease pollution emission. The sootboiler characteristics and optimal sootblowing strategy in a 600MW "W" flame boiler have been investigated, and field experiments have been conducted. According to experimental results, the characteristics of ash deposit accumulating on convectional heat transfer surface has been studied, the effects of sootblowing strength on heat transfer characteristics and boiler efficiency has been investigated, and the effects of the ash deposit state of one heat transfer surfaces have been analyzed. The on-line ash deposit monitoring and optimization of instant sootblowing strategy have been realized on the boiler, which leads to an improvement of boiler efficiency according to practical data.
