Reactive power supply programming in distribution network can improve voltage and decrease power loss, it is important for the running of systems more safe and economical. Ant colony search algorithm is a random optimal method. In this paper, some research is developed for reactive power supply programming in distribution network using ant colony search algorithm in several parts:In part one, the paper expounds reactive power balance and the criterion of reactive compensation of distribution network, and analyses the impact of reactive power supply programming to power factor, voltage loss and power loss.In part two, two mathematical models for reactive power supply programming in distribution network is presented, the age limit of reactive power supply is added to models. The paper uses proper method to calculate power loss in distribution network.In part three, the paper uses improved ant colony search algorithm to solve the problem of reactive power supply programming. The result of calculation examples show that the improved ant colony search algorithm is better than the conventional ant colony search algorithm and the scheme of multi states of load is more reasonable than the scheme of maximal state of load. The reactive power supply programming in distribution network of SuQian city shows that the improved ant colony search algorithm is effective and practical.
