It is a very important and time-consuming routine to layout the roads in construction survey, but the traditional methods in computation of road positions have been getting behind,and the laying-out in office work and field work is separated,furthermore,the degrees in visualization, intelligentizing and integration are quite low. Based on these instances upwards,the central works as follows have been completed in the thesis: 1. The actuality and current in the development of modern surveying instrumentation are introduced, in which the history about the methods of road setting-out is concluded. 2. The advantages and shortcomings in the traditional methods for road position calculation are analyzed systematically and three all-purpose methods in integer-type are put forwards, i.e. Progression outspreading, Duplicated Simpson formula and Gauss-Legendre formula, and the Gauss-legendre formula method is utilized in the system development. 3. A new method by using total-stations to laying-out road slope is bringing forward and meanwhile the corresponding mathematic model is established. 4. The embedded road laying-out system is developed based on Windows CE by using EVC as the main tool with Total-station GTS-720 and the nuclear functions have been realized, such as original and coordinate data managing, coordinates computation, graph displaying, surveying and position setting-out, etc. Markedly, the system has enhanced the degrees of visualization, intelligentizing and integration of the road laying-out works.
