With the development of network on road-construction, it is becoming very important to he scientization. systematization and optimization for investment. The research on road surface management began at the end of I 960s. We started researching asphalt road protection system during the 搒ixth-five-year-plan?in our country and made it highly specialized during the 搒eventh抯? We developed ?4-3-4?main road surface evaluation system. After years of research and application, the road surface evaluation mode, which is put forward by experts at home and abroad, and the cpms system forecasting mode and maintenance mode which are spreading in our country have been analysed in the article. Through these analyses. we have done a lot of work on how to investigate correctly road position, how to classify road disease and how to revise the data in the data bank. On the other hand, the article also introduces the examination methods and equipment for the three indexes about road position (road disease, intensity, level).The Cpms system plays an important role in the application of the road maintenance.
