As an important part of advanced manufacturing technology, reverse engineering(RE)has played an important role in shortening new products developed cycle and production cost, enhancing the ability of de-veloping new products independently and the competitive power of industries. The measurement of 3D pro-files and data points pre-processing is the key part in reverse engineering, it is the base of surface's recon-struct and machining information's getting in the next step.Using the laser measurement of 3-dimention practicality's figure as background and using orthogonal experiment, different scanning measurement data were obtained under different experiments conditions and different objects. Using method of maximum difference and method of square difference to analyze and han-dle the data, the integrality of datum,scanning precision and scanning efficiency were obtained in the situa-tion of different measurement. Experiments result proved that the integrality of datum, scanning precision and efficiency are different under different conditions.In this paper, some key technologies based on point cloud obtained from laser scanner are studied and discussed, including multi-view registration,filtering,,sampling,feature extraction,data block. Three point registration for multi-view data is used to register. Curve inspect method, difference of chord height,median filtering method,N points average filtering method are used for filtering operation. A new method is devel-oped which is based on curvature variation multi-section curve inspect method to eliminate yawp. Curvature variation of point for sampling,curvature variation and angle variation of point for feature extraction and data block are proposed in this paper. These methods are proved to be effective and right by some examples.A point cloud pre-processing software is completed using OOD technology, it base on windows 2000 operating system, use Visual C++6.0 as exploiting tools, combine OpenGL three-dimension graph standard. It integrate processing and method and can observe processing result at real time. It works quite well when it is applied in home-developed software package.
