Crack is a very prevalent phenomenon during the construction ofconcrete member , and is a technologic puzzle which has been nonplussing thearchitectural engineer and technicians . It is proved by practice that theproduction of crack is inevitable, but could be confined within a harmlessrange . The author of this article analyze and summarized the formationmechanism of some familiar cracks in the concrete construction whichincluded crack due to shrinkage of concrete floor and crack due to temperaturecaused by the hydration heat in big volume concrete elements . The mainreason of producing the crack due to shrinkage is the loss of water . The crackdue to temperature is mainly induced by the temperature grads in concretemember . To prevent the crack due to shrinkage , it is advised that the concretemember should be finished two times , combined with the curing blanket tokeep the moisture. In order to prevent the production of crack due totemperature , it is very useful to keep the temperature and moisture of theconcrete member with big volume . All of these have been proved successfulin the application to engineering .
