| Development of small towns is considered as a long-term urbanization strategy for China. Water supply facility is one of the necessary infrastructures for the small towns and is the significant foundation for sustainable economy development and improvement of local people's living standard. Presently, there are a large number of problems for water supply engineering in small towns, mainly including scarcity of water sources and disorder modes of water supply systems. Furthermore, there are no pertinent regulations and standards for the construction of water supply systems in small towns in China, and scant of studies on different methods to construct water supply facilities for various categories of small towns. The study about system selection, overall arrangement, and decision making is still at its beginning stage. Studies upon regional water supply, especially techniques of regional water supply construction for small towns are also limited and lower in integrity as a system. To handle the problems mentioned above, this dissertation is based on on-site investigation, integrating practice into theories, combining existed regulations with innovative rules, employing research findings to practical situations, to serve as technical framework and support for water sources and modes of water supply systems in various categories of small towns with diverse locations, natural conditions, and economic development level.Firstly, categories of water sources and conventional selection of routine water sources for small towns are both identified. For example, Groundwater, which can meet the criteria, is given the priority. Recommending that water sources with onsite characteristics and unconventional features should act as water sources or backup sources. Exploitation of karst water, utilization of rainwater catchment and recycle of municipal wastewater are also respectively given as options in different regions.Based on the understanding of features for small towns and corresponding water supply systems, modes of water supply systems in small towns are classified as regional water supply systems and independent water supply systems. As for independent water supply systems, categories, requirements, technological process, and components are summarized, with the suggestions for system selection, water supply modes et al. However, it is strongly recommended that for conditional small towns, regional water supply is a better choice. Then, the feasibility of regional water supply in small towns is... |
