Shiyang river basin is in the east of Hexi corridor in Gansu province. AndShiyang river is one of the three largest arid inland rivers in Gansu province. Owingto the lack of unified planning, water and land resources have been excessivelydeveloped. The exploitation and using state here have outstripped greatly the carryingcapacity of water resources in recent years due to the rapid development of societyand economy but the under-developed management. It has caused a series of issues,such as the continuous falling of water table, water resources crisis in middle andlower reaches of Shiyang river, the Minqin oasis existence crisis and water qualitydeterioration, which have seriously influenced the sustainable development of thewhole basin. Therefore, the researches on water resources distribution andtransformation in Shiyang river basin have important significance and practical value.The development and transformation and water quality variation of waterresources in Shiyang river basin are studied by groundwater lever fluctuation,environmental isotope and chemical characteristics. Then water resourcestransformation of Wuwei basin and Minqin basin are researched respectively. Finally,on the basis of the conclusion drawn before, it is discussed that the transformingpattern among the atmosphere water, glacial-snowmelt water, surface water, andgroundwater, and the effects of human being's activities on transforming pattern.The main conclusions are drawn as follows: first,water resources in mountainare from precipitation, groundwater, and glacial-snowmelt water. Second, waterresources in Wuwei basin are from eight rivers of the mountain area. And except for alittle vaporization, main water in the rivers recharges the groundwater, in other words,the surface water transforms into the groundwater in this area. And the Wuwei basinis the turnoff region. Third, water resources in Minqin basin are also in the form ofgroundwater. And from the whole Shiyang river basin, Minqin basin is the region ofoutflow. The main drainage patter in this area is evaporization. Finally, thetransformation between surface water and groundwater is dramatic. When the surfacewater in the river comes to the diluvial fan, it is transferred into groundwater throughnatural river bed and channel;at the frontier of the diluvial fan, the groundwatercomes out as springs which become groundwater again in Minqin basin because ofirrigation.
