Vehicle Travelling Data Recorder (VTDR) is a digital electronic device, which can record and store vehicle speed, real time, mileage and vehicle's other status information. Meanwhile those messages can be outputted to other device through special transfer interface. The application of VTDR is important to hold back traffic peccancies such as tired-driving, overspeed, and it is also important for authenticating and analyzing traffic accidents. Aimming at the actuality of the VTDR research, a VTDR is designed in this paper which bases on the imbedded Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). It also has some characteristics such as real-time, high dependability and strong entended ability.First, through the introduction of VTDR's background and reseach actuality the functions of VTDR are expatiated in the paper. Attach to the specialties of the embedded system the significance that the imbedded Real-Time Operating System is applied to VTDR system is proved. Then functions of μC/OS- II operating system is analysed such as its core, task switching, memory management and communication mechanism. And then, hardware framework is introduced in this paper. And the methods in which every function units of the recorder is designed are also discussed. Those function units mainly include data management, data store, LCD display, printer, real-time clock and power reset. At last, in the part of software design, the whole process in which the μC/OS- II operating system is migrated to the MC9S12D64 CPU is introduced. Based on the functions of VTDR the flow of every task's software is described in the paper. Otherwise, several measures of anti-jamming are adopted in the process of hardware and software designing.
