Requirements on the performance of the diesel engine are becoming more and more rigorous in that the energy of the world becomes increasingly scarce and the environmental protection attracts more and more attention. The application of the electronic control technology on the diesel engine is one of the most important techniques to the optimization of the engine's economic and dynamical properties, and it will be the future development direction of the engine. The running property of the diesel engine mainly depends on many factors such as the intake air condition, compression ratio, valve timing, injection pressure, injection timing, and injection pattern, et al. The traditional engine can't achieve the flexible regulation of the working cycle on various working condition due to its settled combination of the components, so it is always considered more about the optimization of the property parameters on standard condition. Thus, the electronic control is a better option for the purpose of obtaining the property optimization of each working condition. This paper develops a type of ECU (electronic control unit) about valve timing and one monitoring software aiming at supervising the situation of the diesel engine and the control result. The main work done in this paper is as follows:1) Design of the software.? Data sampling, data analyzing, data calculation, data saving and the trend displaying respectively.? Implementation of a part of controlling function from which the control signal for valve timing is sent.? Steady control on the rail-oil-pressure to ensure that it is running with steady oil pressure.2) Design of the ECU to control the valve timing and to send out the PWM signal to the driven part for valve while receiving the control signal from the software.3) The establishment of a basic simulator through Matlab/Simulink, RTW and the xPCTarget and the making of many function models such as AD, DA, DI, DO, and PWM et al, and still the realization of the controlling of rail oil pressure through xPCTarget and RTW.
