The emergence and development of virtual instrument technology, represented by LabVIEW(NI), has brought about the revolution to traditional instruments and fast advancement in the instrument industry. LabVIEW(NI) is not only a virtual test instrument, but also a peripheral of computers with the support of powerful software and hardware resources. Hence it is a technology that tightly combines the computer technology with test instrument.This dissertation presents a design of virtual oscilloscope based on ARM, that is used for the investigation of the technology of embedded systems and virtual instruments. As a combination of hypogyny instrument and epistasis computer, a virtual oscilloscope can perform not only the functions that a traditional oscilloscope can, but also some that cannot be realized by monistical hardware jointly with epistasis software. Especially, it can reduce the whole manufacture cost of the instrument significantly. Major contribution of the dissertation is the proposal of a design of hardware at bottom layer of the virtual oscilloscope and the discussion on the associated epistasis software.The virtual digital storage oscilloscope that is studied in the dissertation can fulfill functions of a hypogyny instrument, such as regulating analog signals, converting analog data to digital data, sending out data, and functions of epistasis, such as signal processing, software panel display, hypogyny management, etc. In addition, it can perform certain special functions that traditional oscilloscopes cannot, such as storing and calling vast (nearly infinite) amount of information, conveniently typing and managing graphics. Implementation of software digital filter in the proposed design also enhances the Signal Noise Raito of the system.The core hardware of the designed virtual oscilloscope is a chip of S3C44B0X and the software used is Lab VIEW. The author has worked on formulation and realization of each part of the system as well as their integration and coordination, presentation of the circuit design of hardware, proposal of communication structure between hypogyny and epistasis, and suggestion of modular design of software in the epistasis computer.The dissertation is organized as follows. Section 1 introduces the background of the research in the field and outline of the dissertation. Section 2 presents the inventory of a virtual oscilloscope and associated embedded systems. Section 3 discusses about the advancedhypogyny design of the virtual oscilloscope. Section 4 gives the epistasis design of software. Section 5 presents the design of system interference immunity and the processing of errors. Section 6 discusses on the improvement and integrity of the system, then gives the conclusions of the dissertation and prospects in the field.
