The Historical Study Of Kaiping Diaolou In Guangdong Province

Kaiping Diaolou building, the unique vernacular architecture distributing alloverthe area of Kaiping County in Guangdong Province which is famous as hometown ofoverseas Chinese, are the multiple-story tower-houses for the purpose of defense anddwelling. They are a young and particular member for the big family of Chinesetraditional dwelling houses which integrates the Chinese and Western architectural artinto one entity. They reflect, in a specific period and specific region, the historicaldevelopment of the multi-culture exchanges of the Chinese with the West.In the thesis, based on a large numbers of field work and textual research, thewriter try to give a scientific and systematic descript of the origin, development,blossom and downfall of Kaiping Diaolou buildings from the angle of ArchitecturalHistory.The thesis consists of six parts:Chapter 1: Conform the definition of Kaiping Diaolou buildings and define theresearch object and extension of this thesis.Chapter 2: Introduce the background of the society and circumstance in anddescribe the basic situation of Kaiping Diaolou's development.Chapter 3: This part presents a general description of Kaiping Diaolou's maincharacters, distribution and classification.Chapter 4: This part gives a further research of the process of KaipingDiaolou's construction.Chapter 5: Analogy study between Kaiping Diaolou and other kinds oftraditional Diaolou buildings in China.Chapter 6: Give some proposal of Kaiping Diaolou's conservation based on theusing of GIS.
