After the 1990's, the issue of conservation and utilization for historic urbanwatercourse has drawn more attention in China . This dissertation is focused on somekey problems of historic urban watercourse in traditional urban areas with the mind ofurban conservation and rehabilitation.Firstly, it was discussed that urban stream was not only the basic element of thecity, but also the element of urban landscape and ecology. Through the process ofurban watercourse, it was concluded that the typical problems of traditional Chineseurban watercourse were: 1.traffic congestion;2.infrastructure;3.green open spacesystem;4.land-using problem.Secondly, it looked at the related theories and practice. It included conservation;urban planning;environment science;urban traffic;urban ecology;and urban greenland system. It tried to analysis the principle for conservation and regeneration ofhistoric urban watercourse .There were four points which were important : 1.Thelink between the water resource and waterfront space;2.The combination ofconservation and reuse;3.the environment friendly design model;4.Comprehensiveplanning.Finally,taken the Guangzhou urban watercourse as a case study, the dissertationled to the conclusion of conservation and utilization more advisable.
