Study On The Integration Of Industrial Heritage’s Conservation And Reuse Into Urban Space

With the simultaneity of rapid urbanization and the transformation of industries in China, the sites of industrial heritage have to be taken into the urban regeneration with conservation and reuse, which will definitely make impact on urban structure of space and function in China’s cities.The thesis focuses on analyzing the relationship between industrial heritage and urban space. Based on the relevant theories and cases, and combined with the research on the industrial heritage in the main city of Nanjing, the thesis puts forward the strategy of urban space improvement and integration in the process of industrial heritage conservation and reuse.Thesis is divided into six chapters:Chapter Ⅰ is introduction, which describes the background and research object of the study, identifying relevant conceptions, and determines the research methods based on existing academic achievements.Chapter Ⅱ focuses on discussing the significance of the conservation and reuse of industrial heritage in urban space. To bring the conservation and reuse of industrial heritage into the urban regeneration background, the relationship between industrial heritage and urban space is analyzed in this chapter, as well as the profiles on industrial heritage reuse field at home and abroad.Chapter Ⅲ contains the analysis on industrial heritage’s site and area urban spatial morphology, summarizing the form elements in these2sorts of urban space.Chapter Ⅳ gives a perspective of the history and current situation of industrial heritage in Nanjing City. Based on the achievements of the investigation, all the researching objects are classified into16types,4of which are chosen as typical cases to make further spatial morphology analysis.Chapter Ⅴ puts forward strategies on urban spatial improvement and integration in the process of industrial heritage conservation and reuse.Chapter Ⅵ is the conclusion, summarizes the analysis stated in the above chapters and defects of the thesis.
