The construction of hydropower prpject is a complicated system engineering. It is a large project with a great deal of investment, many concerned technologies and some changeful nature factors. Applying computer technologies to visualize and analyse the space-time data of project dynamicly, real-time and interactively, come into being the major research domain. It is inevitable that hydropower project scientific and modern computer science and technology combine together. Virtual Reality is payed close attention by the information science and project domain because of its cool advantage on visualization. The application of virtual reality start a new research domain for human-computer interaction, and supply a new method for data visualization of large project. Virtual reality has been successfully applied in the domain of fight simulation, martial drill, interactive GIS, virtual trade, medical treatment, game and amusement. Aiming at the graphics rendering of large outdoor scene and the creating of virtual audio environment, this paper study on digital terrain simulation of large hydropower project construction scene, the modeling method of dynamic object, graphics rendering management, level of detail, picking and feeding back, and specially good effect, etc. Based on the describing of virtual hydropower scene, this paper link it with the dynamic simulation of construction process, show engineers instant changement of construction condition, and develop a construction visualization platform which can provide a new environment for the designment and management of hydropower project, and a more scientific and more effective tool.
