Nowadays power grids can be considered as being divided into several control areas that are connected by tie-lines. As a primary measure to implement load frequency control(LFC), operation of automatic generation control(AGC) directly influences the quality of the power grids. Therefore, in recent years, much attention of the electric power dispatching automation has been drawed to control performance assessing standard and control logic of AGC. The subject of great significance in pratice is studied and discussed completely in this thesis. The major work is outlined as follows: (1) Firstly, This paper briefly introduces the basic functions and principles of the AGC system. by analysing AGC mode for interconnected power system, Tie-line bias control(TBC) mode is supposed as adequate. Later, this paper describes Control Performance Standard(CPS) in detail and analyses their technical foundation and effects to power control. Based on the above research, criterions CPS1 and CPS2 are pointed out to apt better to evaluate control area performance. (2) This paper mc ainly deals with the research of AGC strategy under CPS, and puts forward improved methods in two aspects. On one hand, AGC logic is designed with satisfying the CPS itself considered. The other aims at making the best of regulation capability of AGC units, and accordingly adopts very short-term prediction to control AGC reserved capacity in advavce. (3) specially using the AGC strategy provided above, a model of Fujian-East China Grid interconnected system has been set up and used to analyse the effect of control strategy through simulating working conditions. (4) taking AGC system of Fujian power network as example, it is put forward to adopt adjusted area control error(ACE) which serves as control method auxiliary to AGC to fulfill the CPS. At present, the method has been applied to Fujian power network, in which performances of AGC and CPS have been obviously improved through analysis of the data from practice. Finally, the work of the dissertation is summarized, and the possible problems and further research are pointed out.
