| The thesis is mainly about the intangible heritage in the cities and towns south of the Yangtse River. Jinze town is a historical prominent settlement located in the Qingpu county near Shanghai. Inside the settlement, there exists the whole historic context like the old river, bridge, street and other landmarks remaining after a primary transformation of the town since 1980's. Among these landmarks, Yi Hao Temple is the most famous with local vernacular characteristics. There are two festival settings each year. Just like lots of Chinese historic settlements, now Jinze town is also meeting the needs of urbanization and modernization and elimination of vernacular resources. Through the analysis of the temple fair space and the ritual behavior, the thesis attempts to shed light on how the intangible heritage makes an impact on the settlement space. The thesis is aimed at discussing value of the Jinze festival settings and offering reference for the preservation of historic settlements. |
