The steel pedestrian overcrossing is a kind of special structure. Provided with excellence of steel construction, the structure is appropriate to be required in city development and has come forth in the gross in two decades. However, the pedestrian overcrossings' burthen has been gradually increasing because of rapid development of urban construction and steady expanding of population. The structures have been exposing outside and whether its current reliability satisfies design demand is unknown. Therefore, it is the urgent time for the existing steel pedestrian overcrossings on how to access their reliability. In view of the existing situation, in association with the evaluated case of reliability on the pedestrian overcrossing of the Jianshe eighth road in Qingshan district of Wuhan, the paper accesses its reliability respectively by two means, which are reliability grade and calculation of degree of reliability. The content is as listed below:The development and application about steel pedestrian overcrossing are introduced. The necessity of assessing of reliability on the existing steel pedestrian overcrossings is pointed out. According to the current results in related research, the analytical ideas on reliability accessing of steel pedestrian overcrossings are advanced.Base on accessing standard on civil buiding and industrial workshop, reliability accessing methods on steel pedestrian overcrossings are summarized as follows: basic idea, evaluated procedure, accessing content, accessing method and accessing standard.Member dimensions, welding line bugs, dynamic properties of the pedestrian of the Jianshe eighth road in Qingshan district of Wuhan were examined in the spot. Static analysis of the structure is processed by SAP software. Based on the above results, the bridge is accessed by the grade accessing method of reliability.The calculation method of structural reliability is introduced. According to actual conditions, reliability degree of the steel pedestrian overcrossing is analyzed. The analysis results are appropriate to the former accessing grade, which responses the two results' exactness.The two accessing results have offered foundations for the maintenance and repair of steel pedestrian overcrossing. The accessing method has also provided references for similar bridges.
