The soil-concrete cut-off wall is an effective engineering technique to strengthenpermeable strata, which is developed from the common concrete cut-off wall. At thepresent time, the soil-concrete cut-off wall has extensively been applied to strengthendams in danger. As the soil-concrete has various compositions, complex soil-concretemix and rigorous quality of construction, all these lead to the cost to go up. Therefore,developing an kind of soil-concrete which has simple composition, low cost andconvenient workmanship is significant. In this paper, the studies are based on the damstrengthening engineering of Dongping Lake, include researches of developingsoil-concrete mix, study of the mechanical properties of soil-concrete, analysis ofseepage with complicated strata, structure analysis of soil-concrete cut-off wall whichis based on the secondary exploitation of ABAQUS.A series of soil-concrete mix experiments were carried out, and the soil-concretemechanical properties also were tested, the results show that: the strength reducesevidently as the cement content decreases;as well as the ratio of water and colloidaugments, the ratio of modulus and strength augments, and the modulus largens too.With the same content of cement, the kaolin soil-concrete has lower strength andmodulus, but the ratio of modulus and strength is in the same range.The seepage analysis with element free method applied is made on the typicalsection of Dongping Lake dam. The results show that, when the cut-off wall isadopted, the seepage of dam and dam basement reduces ninety six percent, and thehydraulic gradient reduces greatly to a safe magnitude.By programming in user subroutines of ABAQUS software, the simulation ofDuncan-Chang constitutive model is realized. This work expands the ABAQUSsoftware's work domain, and makes use of the software's merits such as highcalculation precision, great work domain, strong astringency and high calculationspeed in embankment dam engineering. Adopting the program in analyzing the stressand displacement of the cut-off wall in Dongping Lake dam. The results show that thestress of cut-off wall is mostly tensile stress. While the modulus of dam basement islittle, there is tensile stress in catchment area of the cut-off wall.The studies are based on the dam strengthening engineering of DongpingLake. The researches include developing soil-concrete, mechanical propertiesof soil-concrete, analysis of seepage with complicated strata, structureanalysis of soil-concrete cut-off wall which is based on the secondaryexploitation of ABAQUS. The research is all-around, including the design ofsoil-concrete cut-off wall and discussing the question in design of thesoil-concrete. Program in user subroutines of ABAQUS software, expandsthe ABAQUS software's function and applies it to the embankment damengineering.
