Due to rapid development of traffic and urbanization, the influence of road traffic-induced vibration on environment of life and working is an increaseing concern in metropolitan cities all around the world. The paper describes measurements of vibration in building in a new residential area in Hangzhou. Analysis results showed that the road traffic was the main reason to induce the vibration and the vibration level in building was exceed the criterion ISO 2631. Some advices were proposed to reduce the environmental vibration. Some theoretical investigations about road traffic-induced vibration by foreign researchers were introduced, and then a simple vehicle model was proposed to predict ground vibration induced by vehicles bounce when corssing speed control humps. The ground vibration was studied in frequency domain by using the simple vehicle model. The study results showed that the mass of vehicle and the height of vehicle bounce influenced the ground vibration greatly. The ground vibrated more fiercely when the vehicle mass was heavier or the height of vehicle bounce was higher. But the influence of the stiffness of the suspension and tire was not very clearly. An experiment was carried out to study the ground vibration induced by vehicle corssing speed control humps. The result showed that the ground vibration increased with the vehicle speed, and the trend was more clearly when the vehicle was heavier. There were two strikes when tires crossed speed control hump: the tires striked the hump and the tires striked the ground when the vehicle fell down. The simple bounce model proposed in this paper could be used to predict the ground vibration induced by vehicle bounce. Much more reasonable vehicle model should be proposed to predict vibration when tires striked the hump.
