The wheel rotation speed sensor is one of the key components in anti-lock brake system (ABS), its performance determines the function of ABS directly. Firstly, the paper design and produce a variable magneto-resistance excited wheel rotation speed sensor, and then make the dynamic calibration experiments. After analyzing and studying the experiment data, the author work out the inherent frequency and the damp coefficient which are the criterion of sensor characteristics. The results indicate that the wheel rotation speed sensor has a good characteristic, and it can detect the change of the wheel's speed timely and precisely when the automobile has been taken an emergent brake.Generally, the electronic control unit (ECU) of ABS can only identify the impulse signal. Before processing the signal came out of the wheel rotation speed sensor, we must be familiar with the characteristics of it. Therefore, we design and manufacture an apparatus which was used to detect the signal from the wheel rotation speed sensor. In order to transform the wheel speed signal to the form that can be identified by the ABS ECU, we design a special signal processing circuit. Based on experiment and analysis on computer, we conclude that the special signal processing circuit can transform the wheel rotation speed signal to the square wave signal, which has the same frequency as the wheel rotation speed signal.
