Study On Architectures In QingDao During German Occupation Period

During German occupation period, the form and style of Qingdao architectures reflected the influences of European and German architecture school at that time. Therefore Qingdao is miniatures about urban planning and the architecture style of Europe specially the German modern times on China;is continuing about the western modern times architecture in China;also is manifesting on a collision and amalgamation between China and the West culture. Since then, the city architecture development of Qingdao has been caused to influence under the western construction culture by these architectures, and these architectures have been important meaning in the Chinese modern times history of architecture.This article accountes for the religious, the administrative and the residential architectures of Qingdao during German occupation period as the main research objects. First through the collection and textual research of correlative data, the thesis studies Germanic social, architectural backgrounds, main architectural activities and the architect from late-19th-century to early-20th-century, thus tries to have a comprehensive and the whole understanding of the German domestic architecture style and the garden city theory at that time. Secondly, the article selects several typical architectures as examples of these three kinds of architectures to investigate and survey on the spot, by the use of the first-hand and other related materials to carry on a more thorough analysis and the proof. From architectural angle, an analysis is made on historical evolution, architectural layout, individual buildings and details, and on the base of analysis and investigation on hisroric data and relic, tries to have a quite comprehensive understanding about the architecture style and the main characteristicof the architectures During German occupation period. On the actual basis provided by these buildings, an assessment of the historical, artistic and scientific values of these architectures is made, emphasizing on its historical value as the chief reason for preservation. At the same time, the article analyzes the meaning of architectures during German occupation period;also relating them to the whole city of Qingdao, to the historical development of architecture in general, to cultural exchanges in general and to the life of Qingdao people. The further assessment of the value of architectures in Qingdao during German occupation period is made both inherently and contexturally, thus further emphasizing on the important of their preservation and protection is made.
