Based on the typical German architecture during German occupation period, this thesis enumerates representative public and private buildings above ground to interpret the connotations and characteristics of the two different architectural cultures between China and Germany, summarizes and analyzes the collision and integration of the architectural culture between the two countries in a view of culture exchanges history.Qingdao as the one and only city which was colonized by Germany in modern China, there are very distinctive architectural features and traditions in it, where is fully demonstrated by German architectural styles and types. A large number of German modern buildings kept in Qingdao are not only the epitome of the mainstream architectural schools in Germany at the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century, but also the result of the inheritance and development of German predominant architectural schools in China, as the result of the collision and integration of the completely different cultures between China and Germany in Qingdao. These precious German buildings are not only the extraordinarily typical in the history of cultural exchanges between the Chinese and Western architecture, but also have significant reference value in historical and cultural fields. And they are still exerting a great influence on the development of architectural culture and city planning in Qingdao.First of all, by presenting the historical evolution of Qingdao, this paper explains the important status of Qingdao in northern China. The German colonists put great interest in it and sent specialists to investigate it many times because of the important geographic location and the strategic value. And, they affirmed the strategic value of Qingdao. The German government meticulously planned to threaten the Qing Government to cede the Qingdao and implemented colonial polices in it. The colonial policies reflected the German culture arose and contacted with Chinese culture in the leased territory for the first time. Those activities laid a historical foundation for the collision and integration of the agricultural culture between the Chinese and the German.By the angle of culturology and architecture, this thesis analyzes the historical reasons of different cultures between China and Germany. Based on that, the thesis induces the backgrounds of the two different cultures and the differences of architectural cultures. Meanwhile, it points that the city planning, which implemented by Germany in the leased territory and the main schools of prevalent architecture in Germany during 19 th century, summarized the main connotations of German architectural culture.Afterwards, by comparing the traditional characteristics of architectural culture between the Chinese and the German ones with in the angle of culturology, this paperanalyzes and interpret s the collision and integration due to the two different architectural cultures during German occupation period. And, this thesis tries to make a concrete analysis of the origins, the courses, and the results both in collision and integration.Finally, this thesis focuses on the values of the historical architectures in five aspects: history, science, usages, economy and education, provides ample evidences for the historic architectures protections, offers concrete measures and solutions for historical buildings protections from the governments and the public in two aspects.
