In this paper,the principle of AI and ES, and method of fuzzy mathematics are usedto develop an Intelligent Design and Simulation System of Planar Disc CamMechanism(IDSSPDCM). This system can intelligently select and design the follower'smotion laws and cam size for the PDCM. According to that, the design of PDCM,machining simulation and NC programming are realized. Cam design is based on the design of follower's motion laws. The paper discusses itin details. Some rules and characteristics of the common motion laws are concluded, andbuild the knowledge repository and reasoning machine, and put forward a method offuzzy evaluation to select motion laws through the research. These are the base ofreasonable design for the disc cam mechanism. According to the classified design for different follower's motion types, the commonuse and practicability of cam design can be achieved through optimizing the cam size. This intelligent design system uses the technology of Object-Orient database. Basedon the model of Microsoft Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC) and Microsoft AccessSoftware, the knowledge base of IDSSPDCM and the manage system of it areconstructed. The system establishes integrity database having strong extensibility andmaintainability. Information exchange between IDSSPDCM and UG NX3.0 has been studied. Entitysculpt and machining simulation of the design result and NC programming can berealized in AutoCAD2005 and UG NX3.0 by studying interface data files ofAutoCAD2005 and UG NX3.0. Then validate the accuracy and feasibility of the result ofdesign. With the tool of VisualC++6.0, the IDSSPDCM is achieved through programmingon the windows xp platform. Some examples are given in order to explain the use of theIDSSPDCM. The design, simulation and manufacture are integrated, so the system canshare the datum, improve the efficiency, reduce the cost and enhance the practicability.
