Reverse engineering is one of the important methods applied in the product designing, development and innovation. We often get the point cloud data of surface by the non-contact measurement method and construct the 3-demensional model of the point data. Then we design the mold and manufacture the entity according as the 3-demensional model. Now this process is one of the developmental trends in the integrated manufacturing field, and it has great value in the engineering.In this thesis, the whole process of reverse engineering is integrated and completed, including data collecting, data preprocessing, curve fitting, surface reconstructing, mold designing and fast manufacturing.The main concepts of the thesis are followed:1. The definition, application, key technology of the reverse engineering is summarized. Based on the curve and the surface constructing theory of Bezier, B-Spline and NURBS, the methods of curve fitting and surface reconstructing are summarized, and the differences among these methods are compared. Then each trait of them and their application in reverse engineering is summarized.2. The theory of line structure laser sensor is researched, and the point cloud is collected by this theory. After that, the data preprocessing, the curve fitting, and the surface reconstruction is researched. And all these process are practiced in Imageware. At last the method of reversed engineering based on the line structure laser sensor is summarized.3. Based on the request of the construction and injection mold designing, the designing, manufacturing is practiced in UG/MoldWizard and UG NX. With technical requirements, the processes of rapid mold manufacturing, rapid prototyping manufacturing, and numeric controlled manufacturing are programmed and practiced. The engineering technical method of rapid mold designing and manufacturing based on reverse engineering are put forward.Finally, the researching contents of the thesis are concluded. The works in future are suggested and prospected.
