The yam-like mantle is the key part of the break-armor ammo. The measurement precision of the wall-thickness affects the power of break-armor and weaken capability of ammo. Presently the manual measurement method is mostly adopted, which affects seriously the measuring precision and efficiency, and so restricts the development for the industry. However special instruments for the measurement are absent at home or abroad.In this thesis, an instrument designed for the measurement of wall-thickness and wall-thickness-difference is developed to meet economically the requirement of measurement precision and efficiency. The contacting measurement method with a double probe is put forward after the detailed analysis of the state-of-the-art measuring methods of the thickness of wall. Firstly, the theory-profile generatrix is built, and then the movement curve of the track of joint center is constructed, which aims at making the joint center move along the movement curve and keep the fixed sensor touching the wall. the measuring sensor examines the line in its normal direction of the interior wall all the time, the data from the sensor is the thickness value of the wall. The above-mentioned method had been proved by simulative experiments.Firstly, the origin of this project, the state-of-the-art of this field and the main work of the author were introduced. And then the selection of the whole scheme and the design of the measuring and controlling software were introduced in detail. The design of the hardware of the profiler was discussed in this paper, and a hanging-shank was designed. The multi-thread techniques and the database techniques used in the software were introduced too. And also, it is discussed that constructing the movement curve arithmetic. At last, the feasibility of the method was validated by testing experiments and the analysis of the data.
