Wall thickness difference of conical parts and the cup in the extrusion processappears to influence the accuracy of parts and the subsequent production and die life.The problem of large wall thickness difference has become an important factor ofrestricting production cost of the factory.Projectile warhead shells are important parts of artillery shell, with thecharacteristics of large volume, high cost, strict quality requirements, at the same timeas the important military products, a very high request to the practical precisionforming technology is put forward, the overall process is difficult, and the influencefactors are much more.This topic research for projectile warhead shells is122mm large caliberprojectile body. It has been studied abroad, but because of the technical security, theresearch results are not known. In domestic hot extrusion forming is commonly used,spinning process is less used, the sample of projectile body can be made by spinning,but spinning can’t be applied in mass production of projectile body. For the control ofwall thickness difference of projectile warhead shell in extrusion forming, wallthickness difference of foreign refining hot extrusion blank can be controlled to1~1.5mm, while wall thickness difference of hot extrusion blank can be controlled to3.5~5mm to some domestic manufacturers. Compared with foreign the gap is bigger,material loss is more and processing time is longer.Aiming at the problem of large wall thickness difference of projectile warheadshell for hot extrusion process, combining with the production status, practicalexperience and theoretical knowledge, the common forming process of projectile bodyis introduced. The detailed analysis of the hot extrusion technology is carried on. Themain influence factors such as the process cooperation and cohesion, punch clamping,die design are pointed out, and the improvement on the process and die design is putforward. Through the analysis of wall thickness difference forming factors of projectilewarhead shell, the reasonable solution is found and the die design is improved, so thedemand of forming parts is acquired, the rate of finished products is improved, thematerial loss and processing time is reduced, the cost is saved. The deep hole parts areused very wide in the industry, artillery warhead shell belongs to deep hole parts, itsforming process and die design can be provided as reference for other deep hole parts.
