Because of the advantages such as compact configuration, high rigidity, high precision and no restriction on follower motion laws, spatial cam mechanisms are widely used in automatic machinery and automatic production lines. This dissertation is focused on solving kinematic problems by taking the example of a spatial cylinder cam mechanism.Firstly, by using the principle of gear mesh and the envelope theory of differential geometry for reference, this dissertation deduced the profile equation of a cylinder indexing cam. Secondly, the pressure angle and the curvature are analyzed in detail by utilizing the space rotation variable method, curvature interference is judged. Meanwhile the first, second boundary points are deduced. All of these lay a foundation for designing this kind of mechanism. At last, the article gives an example. Analyzed the pressure angle in detail and represented its' change, got the profile of this cam by the programmes which are programmed by MATLAB. Drawed the diorama, project views of this cylinder cam by Pro/Engineer. Realized the simple UI by program.
