Intermittent indexing cam mechanism can choose the motion laws of index plate according to working condition. The continuous rotation of the cam is converted to intermittent rotation of the indexing. Because of high speed, high indexing precision, smooth movement, good movement characteristics and other characteristics, indexing cam mechanism is widely used in variety of machining center, automata and automatic lines. The mechanism has become the developing direction of modern intermittent mechanisms. Due to the large indexing number and strong carrying capacity, cylindrical indexing cam mechanism has been rapid developed and widely used.Based on the working principle of cylindrical indexing cam mechanism and through space analytic geometry, the equations of the cam profiles are obtained. This method avoids abstruse mathematical deduction and calculation. The following works can be accomplished through MATLAB and Creo software.The curve of cam profiles and pressure angle are drawn by MATLAB software. Based on the MATLAB GUI and procedures design, a user interface is created. According to the platform of Creo software,the cylindrical indexing cam and index plate solid modeling are created. After the assembly, the motion simulation and interference check of cylindrical indexing cam mechanism are accomplished. Finally, Creo NC and VERICUT are combined to finish the machining simulation of cylindrical indexing cam and obtain the machining code which can be used in CNC Machining.The research results provide a new method and theoretical basis for the design, machining and engineering application of the cylindrical indexing cam mechanism.
