Along with the development of traffic enterprise, the rigid-frame bridge, especially continuous rigid-frame bridge with high piers and long span is applied on the scale. The length of main span and the height of piers break new record continually, but the lag of seismic code proposes a new challenge to the bridge construction. Therefore, it is necessary to study the influences of strong earthquakes on this kind of bridge. It can not only provide the theory basis for the bridge examination and the reinforcement, but also can provide reference to the coming new criterion. As a result, there's important practical significance on this study. This research work may be divided into following two parts:â…  The effects of piers' height difference of the continuous rigid-frame bridge which has high piers and long span on seismic response of structure..The height difference between high pier and low pier in this paper is that: keep the height of low pier unchangeable, while change the height of high pier, thus, there will appear the height difference between high pier and low pier. Then, build 4 models of continuous rigid-frame bridge, choose Tianjin wave and El-Centro wave, and modify the PGA as the input seismic motions. The research indicates that:(a) For the longitudinal seismic response of bridge , whether in elastic stage or plastic stage, with the increasing of height difference between high pier and low pier, the displacement at each span center and at the top of piers increase; the inner force response of low pier increases, while decreases for the high pier; and the acceleration response at each span center reduces.(b) Whether in elastic stage or plastic stage, the transverse earthquake response is more complicated than the longitudinal one. The displacement and inner force of high pier are larger than those of the low pier, and the acceleration response at each span center is out of order.â…¡ The effects of near-fault velocity pulse on continuous rigid-frame bridge with high piers and long span, which may be subdivided into following two parts:a. The collection and classification of the seismic records with velocity pulse...
