Energy dissipation is an important problem that water people study on and engineering application encounters. Shuiniujia power station is the first reservoir power station on Huoxi river. Its flood discharge and empty structures are composed with a spillway tunnel and a flood empty tunnel. The flood discharge structure is the spillway tunnel on the right bank. It connects with a spillway out air downstream and use trajectory bucket type energy dissipation at the outlet. The flip bucket is a expanding type on the right bank in the first design. The water coming from the outlet converges near the right bank. This is bad to stability of slope and scour protection. So, it is requisite to optimize the type of flip bucket.In this paper, the application and development of trajectory bucket type energy dissipation are reviewed. The tongue-type of flip bucket are summarized also. Based on the request of the energy dissipation and scour protection, two updated versions are brought forward. On the basis of discharge ability model test of the spillway tunnel and CFD principle, with FLUENT numerical simulation software, adopting three-dimensional k ?εdouble equations turbulent flow mathematic model and water-gas two-phase flow model, the flow of the first designed and two updated flip buckets is simulated. The parameters of free nappe and downstream erode state of the three flip bucket designs are computed with empirical formulas.
