The research presented in this thesis is a sub-project of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (No. 2004AA424530). The Manifestation of Case-Based reasoning in the computer aided industrial design domain was explored in terms of design methodology and paradigm module. The thesis presents the module of scenario-matching in CBID (Case-Based Industrial Design) system. The development of scenario-matching module is based on scenario study.While Case-Based Reasoning(CBR) has gained applications in many fields,little research can be found on Case-Based Reasoning in the field of CBID(Case-Based Industrial Design). Researches of Case-Based Reasoning are relevant with psychology, artificial intelligence, computer programming. But one of the most important problems about CBR in the field of industrial design is design scenario research.Scenario research is one of hot topics in current industrial design applied research. There are different approaches and strategies to the scenario research in various domains of studies, which have resulted different paradigm modules. Based on cognition experiment about product sculpt, this thesis embarks from various domains scenario research and presents an implementary mechanism of scenario-matching module in CBR system. The question about the representation and matching of scenarios in the CBR (Case-Based reasoning) system was solved. Under the existing condition, the implementary mechanism can enhance the assistant of industrial design system, and provide an effective solution towards other CBR systems.Based on results of various domains scenario research results, this thesis identifies the demands for the CBID system, and constructs the GSCM (generalized scenario conceptual model). The question-solution pattern in product form design was gained and modeled. Based on the generalized scenario conceptual model, this thesis has discussed the scenario model in the process of product form design. By applying the scenario model in the process of product form design and the CBID system, the design scenario model in system was constructed. In the CBID system, the scenario matching and the design case scenario expression provides the feasible method, and the scenario-matching module in the CBID system was realized.
