Digital binoculars are a new kind of digital product, which might serve as binoculars and digital camera at the same time. It can be widely used in many fields such as military department, police, judiciary department, shipping department, sport, journey, etc. Because of its merits, these products are accepted by customer and demand exceeds supply after 2002. Whereas, because it is a new product, there are many technology problems need to be resolved. So the research is still concentrated on the design of new products. There isn't any information related to specifications and their test of digital binoculars. It is hard to control and ensure the image quality of digital binoculars. In order to unify the market price, insure consumer benefits, it is important to find key specification and its test for digital binoculars.First, the principle and characteristics of digital binoculars is described in detail. And the specification of binoculars and digital camera are analyzed in-depth. On the base of analysis, the three key specifications are proposed. The three key specifications are: resolution, field of view matching and the MTF of image sensor.Digital binoculars are new products and so there are no data about the test of the resolution and field of view matching. In order to measure the resolution of digital binoculars, the method based on the combination of collimator and resolution chart is proposed. The test device is built and the software which can get the resolution of digital binoculars automatically is achieved. The experiment of the resolution measurement is carried out.In order to measure the field of view matching of digital binoculars, the depth of optic axis parallelism and field of view matching are measured respectively. The collimator and pre-set lens are used to measure the depth of parallelism of optic axis. Field of view meter is used to measure the field of view of binoculars and camera. Finally, the relation between the field of view matching of digital binoculars and the size of field of view of binoculars and camera is analyzed theoretically.Based on the analysis of the MFT principal and measure method of image sensor's MTF , the contact measure method using rectangle template for MTF of image sensor is created. According to the number of pixels of image sensor in one cycle of the template function, the quantitive relation between sine template and rectangle template is proposed through theoretical analysis and comparison.
