At present, with the development of computer software and hardware, the application of embedded system has been made great progress. The field of embedded system application is involved in communication, automatization, home electronic appliance, medical treat, test instrument, etc. Embedded system has the features of low cost, reduction for software and hardware, small volume, light weight, high stability and low power exhausting. The technology of design a great ingenious test instrument, which combines embedded system technology and test technology , have been a research hotspot in test and embedded system field.This dissertation introduces a method to implement a virtual instrument which designed for measuring automobile routine parameters. The method is to bring embedded system technology in automobile field, and is to carry out a instrument by software means. It is the embodiment of the idea that software is the instrument. Automobile instrument has entered the digital and intelligentized stage from the anolog instrument stage in which apparatus is inefficient, low precision, low response speed, high power exhausting. Virtual instrument is software instrument that function is came true by software which replace some hardware to analyses data and to processes data. The method introduced in this dissertation was just brought forward on the background. It involves some fields, like as sensor technology, electronic technology, data acquisition and processing, automobile test technology, embedded system and so on.This paper refers to many book and article about native and foreign embedded system and automobile test instrument. Firstly, paper introduced virtual instrument and embedded system technology. Afterward, it presented a method to design an embedded virtual instrument for testing automobile routine parameters. The method includes constructing software and hardware platform, multi-thread programming technique, MiniGUI programming technique and so on. Through experiment it have been proven that the instrument accord with the request for precision and it provides with dynamic graphic function and intelligentized test.
