Equipment condition monitoring and fault diagnosis is a technology to learn and master the status of equipment using process. It can make sure whether it is normal or abnormal of the whole equipment or partly, find the fault and reasons early, and forecast the fault's developing trend. Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis is an important subject. It will bring obvious economic and social benefits with reasonable usage.As the front-end equipment of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, the data acquisition and analysis instrument's importance should not be ignored. It is the headstream of information, its precision and correctness put a direct effect on the correctness of after-analysis. The development of computer and micro-electronics leads to the rapid development of new generation data acquisition and analysis instrument. A kind of data acquisition and analysis instrument based on Linux Operating System is researched in this paper.Firstly, the paper researches the present condition of fault diagnosis, testing instrument and embedded system, presents the acquisition system's basic theories. It also introduces the whole scheme of the embedded data acquisition and analysis instrument, including the hardware's design, the software's main frame and the function of each module.Secondly, the design scheme, the realizing method and the technical difficulty of the main modules are introduced in detail, the main modules include data acquisition module, data transmission module, and signal analysis module. The continual real-time data acquisition technique is also introduced in the paper.Thirdly, embedded system has strict limit, both from capability and from cubage, thus it is very necessary to transplant desktop Linux to embedded system. The paper introduces this transplanting process in detail.Finally, experiments validate the correctness of our instrument. The paper makes conclusion and presents the prospect of our research.
