The situation of energy in the world, the condition of fuel consumed by vehicles and the environmental pollution caused by automobiles are reviewed firstly. The feasibility of oil-base fuel replaced by methanol and dimethyl ether and the situation of study on methanol and dimethyl ether domestically and overseas are indicated. Then the technical approach to apply methanol and dimethyl ether on internal combustion engine and its advantage and disadvantage are summarized. The hazard, cause of formation and control measure of vehicle's harmful emissions are also illuminated. Finally on the base of the combustion of methanol mixed with dimethyl ether injected directly in cylinder, the test study on the engine and the theoretical analysis are carried out.It is important that the basic structure of diesel engine is not almost changed. A device to heat inlet gas is installed between intake manifold and air cleaner, and the low-pressure oil passage is changed a bit. The compression ignition engine is fueled with methanol with dimethyl ether as an ignition improver. Engine experiments show that the system works stably with a simple structure, low cost and easy operation features. The study on the effect of blended fuel proportion, the advanced...
