Deep exploration is a high-tech-compressed research field of high devotion and risk. Because of the particular circumstance, extremely high difficulty and safety factor needed, the process and condition can't be easily simulated by practicality simulation. Virtual reality, which was proposed during early 90s, is a new integrated technique. Due to its prominent merits such as nicety, intuitionist and visualization, virtual reality is far-ragingly used in various fields. People can use virtual reality to get intuitionistic results that practicality simulation can't guarantee if combined in deep exploration research. Therefore, the use of virtual reality in deep exploration field has broad foreground.This thesis deeply researches the virtual reality techniques used in the spacecraft's soft landing process on asteroids. They can be concluded within four parts: spacecraft substantial modeling, 3D terrain modeling, safe landing area choice and visual demonstration of the whole landing process.1. The thesis depicts the spacecraft substantial modeling, based on many famous international spacecrafts. MultiGen Creator is the dev-kit of this process. It is developed within the format of OpenFlight, combined and romanced finally.2. A 257X257 3D terrain data is created by the Diamond-Square method, with the purpose of rendering primal data for terrain construction. A terrain gray image is made according to the relationship between heights of terrain data and pixels of gray image. The DED data is got from IMAGE2DED conversion and is used in terrain modeling with the method of Delaunay.3. Edge detection and threshold segment are used in safe landing area choice. The Laplace-Gauss operator is used in the former and the method of variance within species & criterion segments the latter. After that, these two methods are combined as a whole to pick up safe areas and got a terrific effect.4. The thesis demonstrates the safe process of a spacecraft landing on an asteroid's terrain, based on MultiGen Vega/ VC++, with the help of LynX.
