Suspension system is one of the most important parts in the whole automobile. Its performance influences directly on such characteristics of auto as ride comfort, stability, safety and longevity, etc.Vehicle is a complex system that is comprised of many DOF. For such system, the more DOF, the better result can be get. But that also brings some problem that a more complex model including more parameters is more difficult to solve. Considering both the calculation precision and the need of the study object, this paper establishes a whole auto model with 7 DOF. Based on the model, a further research about the suspension system characteristics has been taken, and an optimization design about the suspension parameter has also been finished. The detail is as follows:1. The study about the non-linear characteristic of the suspension system parameter. The real situation of the auto running is various. Because of that, the suspension parameter should have non-linear characteristic to improve the ride comfort of the auto. The paper does some basic study about the non-linear characteristic of the suspension parameter. And more, a simulation is taken in the environment of Matlab\Simulink by the method of subsection. The result of the simulation proves the result of the study. And at the same time, a conclusion is get that the acceleration of the car body and the suspension working space restrict with each other.2. The optimization design of the suspension parameter. At present, most of the vehicles use the passive suspension system. Because of the complexity of the running situation, the optimization design of the suspension parameter is a most important work. This paper has done a further study about the suspension parameter, and based on that, the paper chooses the object functions and their coefficients. With the help of Matlab, a final optimization result has been get. With simulation of different running situation, the optimization result has been proved to be nice.The whole study work of this paper is based on the 7 DOF model. And a further study about the suspension system characteristic has been done.
