Small hollow concrete block is used as a substitute for fired clay brick for it has many advantages such as soil-saving and energy-saving, which also brings bright outlook for its development as a new type of building materials. Reinforced concrete masonry columns as perpendicular bearing members in the concrete block masonry structure, not only can bear axial stress, but also can resolve the problem of the lower capacity of reinforced concrete masonry walls subjected to out-of-plane eccentric load, so the study on capacity subjected to eccentric load by experiment and theoretical anlysis is active to practical application and perfert of reinforced masonry structure. In this paper, the 10 reinforced concrete masonry columns have been tested subjected to eccentric load. The capacities, the load-deformation relationship, the failure process and mode have been studied. The influence factors to the capacity are considered, such as eccentricity, the rebar in the button stem and the whole test process. The test results showed that eccentricity is the main factor on the failure mode and the capacity of the reinforced concrete masonry columns. The formula to calculate the capacity of the reinforced concrete masonry columns subjected to eccentric load which is based on concrete theory has been got. The method is according with concrete members subjected to eccentric load formally, but the expression in masonry structure has been drawn lessons from to take account to the effect of longitudinal curvature on the capacities , which is verified proper by the test results. The nonlinear FEA program ANSYS is adopted to simulate the behaviors of reinforced concrete masonry columns. On the base of the analysis results agreeing well with the test ones, an extensive parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of different factors (eccentricity, reinforcement percentage, height-to-width ratio, location of the reinforcement, ratio of the hoop reinforce-ment etc.) on the capacity. Additional eccentricities in the theoretical formulas have been modified and its rationality and applicability have been verified by the datas obtained from ANSYS.
