The transmission line is an important part of power system. It is urgent to build up a transmission line on-line monitoring system with reliable and plentiful functions. This is the direction of development of transmission line on-line monitoring. In this paper, the parameters related to transmission line is measured and reported. The data is analyzed by the background server to make some decisions. The result can reflect the status of transmission line with high reliability. The information, network and intelligence management of power transmission line can be highly improved by the extension of this technique.In the first part of this thesis, the recent domestic and overseas development of power transmission line on-line monitoring technique is introduced. And then, according to the requirement of the transmission line department, the proper parameters to be measured are proposed though lots of experiments under lab environment. These mainly include the sampling condition, range and frequency of leakage current and distributed voltage; the alarm and spot of flashover, thunder stroke and tower theft; the picture shoot of transmission line swing and insulator ice cover; and the measurement of temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction. In this part, the weakness of traditional method of measurement is pointed and some original ideas are proposed.In the third part, the architecture of the power transmission line on-line monitoring system is introduced, and the hardware design is described in detail. These include the microprocessor unit, the power system, the sampling of leakage current, distributed voltage, picture and the storage and transmission of data.The hardware design is only one part of the system. The other important part is software. It is the soul of automotive equipment, especially in this system. The equipment is running above the transmission tower, so the reliability of software is of great importance.
