Nowadays, the number of vehicles is increasing rapidly. As a result, traffic accidents and casualties increase sharply. In order to enhance passive safety of vehicles and decrease the number of casualties, the structure crashworthiness and passenger protection of vehicles need be studied during design stage.The vehicles crash test is necessary to appraising vehicles and passive protection device, but it demand a very long research period, and also demand a lot of man power, material resources and the financial power. Even if such, the result that repeating test got is also uncertain ideal. According to foreign research result, vehicles crash simulation including dummy can accurately forecast not only the structure crashworthiness of vehicles but also response and injury degree of passengers in crash process. This method is very important for shortening design period of vehicles. The simulation test method can enhance vehicles'side impact safety greatly, and has the important signification to improve road traffic safety.Based on reveres engineering technology, point clouds of car body were got using FARO coordination machine, CAD model of car body was built in CATIA, and finite element model was generated in PAM-CRASH/SAFE. Then we set and control simulating process parameter in automobile side impact virtual test, finally actualize automobile side impact virtual test according to ECE R95 regulation. The results in the virtual test are compared with those in the experiments,the results of virtual test agreed approximately with the real side impact test. It also testified the accuracy of automobile side impact virtual test simulation model.Based on side impact simulation test, car was improved via installing side impact beam and designing side airbag model which mainly Protecting thorax and abdomen. The latter also can offer basic information about side airbag in concept Phase. The simulation result of improved car was compared with the unimproved car. Two methods all can relax impact to passenger when the inside of door was touching with the passengers, enhance the protection to passengers, and improve side impact safety of the car.
