Metal rubber is a kind of elastic porous material which is made of metal wire by rolling, tension, weaving, molding and heat treating. It can dissipate vibration energy through dry friction caused by relative slip within metal wire and then can be used as damping material in vibration damper. Progress has been made for years in the study on metal rubber material and metal rubber damper in Russia and USA. It has a widely and successful application in aeronautics, astronautics and other high technology industry, because of its capacity of bearing high and low temperature, high damping, high elasticity, anti-corrosion and anti-radiation. It can be easily fabricated into complex shape to meet the requirement of various applications. In recent years, more and more studies on metal rubber damper and its application have been carried out in China. In this paper, a new type of dry friction damping element which is named Metal-net Damping Element (MNDE) is fabricated using metal net with simple molding technics and low cost.A set of mold tool of fabricating columned MNDE is designed in this paper, and using this tool the metal net can be worked into solid columned MNDE and hollow circular cylinder MNDE conveniently. The metal-net damper (MND) is also designed and MNDE is used as the damping material fillings. Experiments are performed for three type of metal-net dampers with different filling density to investigate the effect of density of MNDE, excitation force and proof mass for the dynamic characteristic of MND.To build the mechanical model of MND and to evaluate its damping capacity, four MND dampers with different filling densities were tested for their hysteretic characteristic curves to investigate their energy dissipation characteristic, It is found that the filling density of MNDE and loading amplitude are two important factors on the damping capacity of MND. The tested hysteretic curve of the MND is decomposed into elastic skeleton curve and energy dissipation curve. Based on this curve decomposition the mechanical model of MND is built and the parameters of MND model are identified through curve fitting.Adjacent structures are the common structure form in engineering and daily life, the two adjacent buildings with damper is a new approach to suppress building...
