The engineering design of aircraft sheet metal parts has characteristics such as multi-specialty, distributed interaction and heterogeneous information etc. It's a trend of digital aircraft sheet metal parts manufacturing technology to resolve the integrated problem of departments, employees, business process and technology resources. This thesis take process planning as center, study the distributed collaborative design mode of aircraft sheet metal parts engineering design, Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering design platform for Sheet metal parts (AMES) is designed and developed.The thesis includes:(1) Design elements such as information classification, business process and organizations of engineering design are analyzed, the technical characteristics of conventional and digital engineering design are compared, an architecture of Collaborative Model for AMES (CM4A) is built, this model disassembled the design process to many different tasks and activities by levels, by building constraint relation of domain group, role, and authority, collaborative design between users can be realized, the dependence relations between activities can be described by activity states.(2) The architecture of collaborative platform is built, the platform is constituted by user layer, application layer and heterogeneous environment process layer. The application layer forms the core layer of platform architecture, around the engineering design goal, business logic, sheet metal parts professional component, platform manage tools are integrated.(3) The information integrated architecture of engineering design is proposed, it can resolve the information integrated problem between engineering design application systems. A method to integrate platform and application systems based on "mainboard-plug-in" structure is proposed, the integration problems between platform and application systems of different levels can be resolved by this method, user access control of platform based on uniform interface can be easily realized.(4) For the integration and management of collaborative design process, a light work flow engine WE4A (Work flow Engine for AMES) based on XML and database that suitable for web applications is proposed, this engine adopt XPDL as standard process define language, it can be interpreted and executed by the process model in the work flow management of collaborative design.
