The scientific management of water supply network can ensure the safety, credibility and economy of municipal water supply. But compared with the developed countries, the management methods and technology of water supply network are still backward in most area of our country at present, and the artificial management and decision-making based on experience is adopted mostly. In allusion to the actuality, the water supply network decision support system (WSNDSS), taking the water-supply network in Xi'an for example, is studied to achieve the scientification, automatization and visualization of water supply network management.The water supply network decision support system of Xi'an employs the advanced computer technology, network technology, communication technology, geographical information technology, decision support technology, and founds the basic network information base. Associating with the business process of water supply network management closely, it can't only deal with the network information and other information with water supply network as its core, but also supply the cogent decision-making to water supply planning, designing, dispatching, emergent repairing, network running and managing, etc.. The main achievements made in the study are as follows:(l)The actuality, requirement and business process of water supply network in Xi'an are analyzed according to the system theory, and the main function and mission of WSNDSS are brought forward. Moreover, the general frame of WSNDSS is designed.(2)The model-base of WSNDSS is built. Associating with the actual condition in Xi'an, the water-consumption forecasting models, network water quality models, network macroscopic models and network optimization scheduler models are studied, especially water-consumption forecasting model and network macroscopic model Based on BP ANN are built emphatically.(3)The storage and management of system attribute data and spatial data are carried out by SQL SERVER 2000 and MAPINFO respectively. And the seamless concatenation of them is achieved by data binding technology.(4)Some application soft wares, such as SQL SERVER, MAPINFO and MATLAB etc., are availably integrated by VB. Based on that, the software WSNDSS is developed. Through it, the main function of decision-making and management comes true, including: searching and retrieving, statistic analysis, scanning and editing map, water-consumption forecasting, network macroscopic simulation, network optimization scheduling, visualization of water-power and water-quality data, accident disposing, information issuing, system management, online help and so on. All of these lay a foundation to achieve the scientification, automatization and visualization of water supply network management.
