Based on mathematical morphology and wavelet transformation, an approach on power quality (PQ) disturbance detection and location is presented in this paper. At first a parallel-composed morphological filter with adaptive multiple structure elements is designed to filter random noise and impulse noise in PQ disturbance signals. Then, for the filtered results, the wavelet transformation method is adopted to detect and localize the transient events and furthermore classify and identify different PQ disturbances. A scheme for multiple transient PQ disturbance location is also discussed. Numerical results under MATLAB environments show that the proposed approach is valid and effective.
