The engine is one of the most important components, the performance of the engine have a direct effect to the driving safety of the automobile. The engine block is the main body of the engine, its stiffness and dynamic characteristics ensure the normal working of the engine. At present, the advance of the diesel engine to more power and lighter weight decreases its stiffness and enhance the vibration of the components, directly affecting the working cycle of the diesel engine. The dynamic characteristics analysis of the engine block has an important significance to reveal the relationship of outer simulating force and the inherent characteristics. The analysis provides the premise to the designers that they can design the engines having high intension and low vibration. This paper takes CA4D32 diesel engine block as an example, having a detailed analysis of the engine block by using Finite Element Analysis Software— ANSYS.First, make a modal of the engine block in the Pro/E, by making free modal analysis and constrained modal analysis of the diesel engine in the ANSYS, we get the first 20 order modes and frequencies of the engine block under these two analysis, the rule of the modes and natural frequencies is analysed, the methods of improving stiffness are put forward.The second, according to the working data of the engine, the loads and constraints are accurately calculated, the simulating forces are appropriately applied on the modal by FEM rules and principles.
