The Research On Location For Dry Port

With the development of international container transportation and less capacity of inland container transportation, dry port has been pervasive in business and academic domain. Dry port has become a common concern for both researchers and practitioners. Although the researches on dry port have been started since 1990s, the researches have not been much adequate, and are in the process of development. The thesis thoroughly focuses on concept, character, development mechanism, location planning and the selection of the factors affecting on dry port by applying multi-theories and multi-methodologies. It aims to present an analysis methodology in order to improve inland container transport efficiency and decrease the cost of transportation.The thesis is divided into six chapters. The main contributions are as follows.1. The thesis elaborates conceptual bases on dry port. It firstly delimits dry port definition based on reviewing the concept and definition concerning dry port; Then, it compares the differences and similarity among several similar concepts and presents characteristics of dry port; Furthermore, it presents the functions and types of dry port, and also it gives the two modes for dry port.2. The thesis studies development mechanism of dry port. First, it presents the development mechanism for dry port based on system theory: it studies the impetus for dry port according to the development of world economy and international commerce, improving inland transport capacity of port, the demand of international container logistics the maximization of container ships and development of container transportation in China; then it presents the relationship of all impetus.3. The thesis studies the location mode and aspects used for location mode. Firstly, it analyses the principle for location planning of dry port, then the thesis prefers to use fuzzy c-clustering based on the characters of all location modes; Finally, it analyses the aspects that affect the location planning of dry port.4. The usage of fuzzy cluster for dry port.
