Redevelopment of city port district is becoming one of the major tendencies in the recent world construction. As port operations move downstream, under-used or abandoned central city port areas are being redeveloped for water-related urban activities, including retail, residential and recreational pursuits. First this dissertation trraced back the backgroudand initial causes in general,and then had a historic review of redevelopment in west. According to the clue of reuse of industrial heritages,the history of redevelopment had been divided into three phase. In each phase,the dissertation expounds the typical cases in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.Secondly ,this dissertation gives a comprehensive analysis on the success story and tendency by case studies,and emphasizes the impellent effect of reuse of industrial heritages on urban regeneration.Finally,the dissertation summarized the current domestic situation and cases of redevelopment,and makes some suggestions for the redevelopment in china.
